Abdul Samad created history as he became the first player from Jammu and Kashmir to score multiple centuries in a Ranji Trophy match. The batter went on a six-hitting spree in the game against Odisha, smashing 15 maximums across two innings as he went on to become the top-scorer for the side in both the innings. Samad’s whirlwind knocks have put J&K back in the contest against Odisha.

In the 1st innings, Samad scored 127 runs off 117 deliveries, striking nine sixes en route. His knock helped J&K put up a respectable 270 runs on board before they were bowled out. The batter bettered his tally in the 2nd innings, with a run-a-ball 108-run knock that once again rescued Jammu and Kashmir from a collapse. Only two other batters have hit more sixes than Abdul Samad in a Ranji Trophy match.

Abdul Samad made his first-class debut in 2019 and has amassed 1240 runs from 24 games so far. The J&K batter has turned his attention to red-ball cricket after being a regular for white-ball contests in the past. In fact, he has better stats in T20s, boasting of 1339 runs from 83 matches. Samad’s ability as a finisher saw him being roped in by IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and has been a regular in their playing XI.

Jammu and Kashmir have set a target of 269 runs for Odisha. The J&K bowlers have rattled Odisha’s top-order early in the 2nd innings, sending three of their batters back to the pavilion within ten overs. At this stage, Odisha need over 250 runs to win the contest with seven wickets and two sessions left in hand.
