Trofi Champions akan menjadi turnamen ICC pertama yang diadakan di Pakistan sejak Piala Dunia ODI 1996.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Mohsin Naqvi and other officials met with the ICC delegation during their review of preparations for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The meeting happened in Islamabad for the mega-event happening next year in what is the biggest tournament that Pakistan has ever hosted.
ICC satisfied with ICC Champions Trophy preparations
According to Naqvi, the review by the cricket board was a success. The ICC delegation headed by Event Operations Manager Sarah Edgar was satisfied with the progression of construction at the National Stadium in Karachi and the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. The most important thing, the security, was also up to par according to the PCB.
The ICC checked the Islamabad Cricket Stadium apart from the Karachi and Rawalpindi venues and was satisfied with the security arrangements there as well. Naqvi assured them that the upgrades of the stadiums would be completed before the ICC Champions Trophy kicks off on February 19 (the proposed date).
Nothing on Lahore yet
However, nothing has been said about the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The venue has been marked by the PCB as the ground where Team India will play all of their matches. Placed in Group A alongside Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand, Rohit Sharma‘s Men in Blue are expected to stay in Lahore for the whole duration of the ICC Champions Trophy. However, the semifinals are to be played in Rawalpindi and Karachi.
This raises the question: What’ll happen if Team India makes the final four? Will the PCB shift the venues? The final is to be played in Lahore, so that won’t be a problem. However, before getting into all of this, one has to question where India will actually travel to Pakistan given the tension between the two neighbouring nations.
