The Right to Match (RTM) card is returning to the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL) mega auction after its absence since the 2022 season. Last used in the IPL 2018 mega auction, the RTM card gives franchises enhanced flexibility in retaining players.

For the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction, teams are allowed to retain a maximum of six players, either directly or by utilising the RTM card during the auction. This strategic option helps franchises strengthen their rosters while functioning through the competitive auction process.

Players retained by PBKS in the last IPL Auction using RTM

Player Price
David Miller 3 crores
Marcus Stoinis 6.2 crores
Mohit Sharma 2.4 crores

David Miller

One of the best players for the Punjab-based franchise, David Miller was retained by the team in 2018. After leading the team to the final in 2014, the Preity Zinta-owned team looked forward to another good season from him. However, the season didn’t go as planned; the player appeared in only three matches and managed to score 74 runs.

Marcus Stoinis

Many don’t know that Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis made his debut with Kings XI Punjab in 2016. In 2018, the Aussie was brought back to the squad using the RTM card. However, he failed to deliver a spectacular performance for the Punjab side, scoring 99 runs and taking three wickets in seven matches.

Mohit Sharma

After making his debut with Chennai Super Kings in 2013, Mohit Sharma moved to KXIP (now PBKS) following CSK’s ban from the league for two years. The team brought him back in 2018 with the help of the RTM card. He played nine matches in the 2018 season and took seven wickets. In 2019, he returned to CSK after they were reinstated in the league.

Players PBKS retained in IPL 2018

Apart from Mohit Sharma, Marcus Stoinis, and David Miller, PBKS retained only Axar Patel as their direct retention.
